Self Portrait Challenge {What I Wear}
I'm a pretty casual kind of girl. Most of the time I dress for comfort. Like today. I wore my "green is good" t-shirt from Target and some jeans. (since I'm wearing that shirt, I'll tell you one thing I do to be "good:" I use Shaklee cleaning products in my home. Swear by them. Love them. And they're green.) I'm also wearing my beloved ipod and some of sarah's art.
Jeans and a t-shirt, yadda yadda yadda. I'm not so keen on this month's self portrait challenge, but I need to post today--I've joined ranks with the NaBloPoMo's (National Blog Posting Month-you're supposed to post every day in November). It will be a challenge, but I can handle a challenge.
Speaking of a challenge, Jake and I are starting training for a half marathon! Any advice????
Now, about the cat that has died...Mr. Cosmo was a very grumpy and mean old guy who never came inside and wouldn't really let you pet him, but when he did let you pet him he would pass gas. (yes, I know, I just sounded like my grandmother.) {The cat was a total farter. Is that more age appropriate?} I didn't think I was attached. My guess is that he got hit by a car or something, because his leg was badly broken and needed a very costly surgery, so we had him put down. (Please don't judge me.) Well, I cried like a baby. #3 was with me, but she just didn't get it. I broke the news to #1 and #2 after school, and slowly #3 started to understand from their reactions. It all happened very fast and unexpectedly and they were so sad. My sweet youngest wanted to see for herself so she stole a butter knife, snuck out to the garage (where I was keeping him until his funeral, which was very nice, by the way) and opened the box Cosmo's body was in. She came and got me and told me about finding him in the box and the rest was history. She was a broken hearted little tiny mess for the rest of the day. I answered a million questions about life and death that spanned from very simple to very complex and held her and soothed her all day and had to rock and sing her to sleep. She did a little better today, poor baby, bless her heart. (I guess I feel like sounding like my grandma.)

Oh my gosh, is that shirt from Target this season?? Green is my favorite color, I would *love* to find one of those shirts!!
So sad about your kitty :( I had to put our dog down when my daughter was 3, and had the same experience of answering a bunch of questions the best I could for her age/understanding. I was such a mess, ended up sitting on the deck in the dark in the middle of the night crying... I cried more over that than when my beloved grampa died.

Here's my 1/2 marathon advice. Don't do it, it hurts. I did it two years ago and it sucked.
Half marathons are AWESOME! J and I are totally doing another one. Kara had really good advice for me when I started training. She said if you can run 8 miles and still feel good after, you can run 13. While I was training, I usually ran 5-7 miles at least 4 times a week. The most I ever ran before the race in one stint was 10. You can do it! Good luck!! :)
You're quite ambitious Brit. I wish I had some advice but you're talking to a girl who gets really tired after 3 miles and that was when I worked out 4-5 days a week.
That's so sad about your poor kitty. And poor little Abby.
Your outfit reminded me that I like wearing a short sleeved shirt with a long sleeved shirt under it. And I haven't done that in a while.
I like 1/2 marathons too. I think they are the perfect distance. You feel like you've really accomplished something but you don't feel like crap after!
A tidbit from my vault: don't feel like you have to run everyday to train. Days off are golden, your body and mind need the rest. And you really only need to do one long run a week. The long run might start out as 2 miles and then you work your way up to the longer 8 and 10 miler. It is said that you should never run more than 10 miles before the race, and I've found that 1 is good enough!! (Saturday's were Chris and my long run day so we could do it together).
try this book: 'The non-runners marathon trainer' by David Whitsett. We have found it helpful because it tells you what you need to do each week to prepare for the race. Good luck!
