greetings from cayman!

_MG_4718

While we were enjoying this sunset, there was a massive windstorm along the east coast.  The next morning we learned that at home our power is out (along with over 300,000 other homes), so I sighed a deep sigh and went to the pool.  I had to make sure the kids had thier fill of pina coladas for the day.  (Jake made a bunch of calls to make sure all the folks at home were being taken care of.  He's nice like that.  He also got his family members to attend to various needs at our house--thanks, guys!)

We've been staying relaxed and sunburned.  The babies have remained mostly unhappy the whole trip.  Babies.  What can you do?  Speaking of, they are waking up, so I have to wrap up my little greeting here.  We've been having such a great time with my dad.  That guy.  Spoiling us rotten.   He's even been cooking all our meals.  What am I going to do when I get home to no power and freezing weather?

sweetness

I'm off to watch an outdoor movie with the kids.  I hope I remember to drive the golf cart on the left side of the road!

Hope you're all well:)

the early bird gets the chocolate

_MG_4558

Last night I grabbed a handful of chocolate chips right after the children were in bed.
It had been a long day.  I was tired.

(do you ever reward yourself for reaching the end of a long day?)

This morning I went upstairs with large, warm bottles of milk at 5:30.  The babies were ready to begin the day.  After changing thier diapers and letting them crawl all over thier room (and me) and hug and kiss as many stuffed animals as they could reach, we came downstairs.  Jake had started the fire up in the wood stove.

I was thinking about how I had intended to write and post several blog entries over the past week, but I hadn't done it when I smelled that someone needed another diaper change. As I was about to do our business, I noticed that the other tiny person (pictured above) was being very quiet, sitting in a little nook between the couch and ottoman.  Upon closer inspection, I realized that she had found the bag of chocolate chips that I had forgotten about.  (very sloppy, Britt.  I'm usually better at covering up my chocolate addiction.)  She had dumped them on the floor between her little legs and was putting them into her mouth one at a time.  As fast as she could.

I wonder how many she got in there before I realized?

oh, well.  Becoming a chocolate lover is pretty much inevitable in this house.

I am one lucky girl.

I was practicing my new skills via Pioneer Woman. She said it in a way that I finally got it! One step closer to putting my camera on M. (how does PW do it all?)

*

My kids celebrated at school yesterday.

They brought color-your-own valentines (a lot of effort went into each one!)

and Playdo in the appropriate valentine colors (available at your local grocier).

Dressing in a festive fashion. She never wears those boots. She claims they are too bright. She wears that tutu to school all the time. I must be missing something.

My vision for the whole thing is to print a book at the end of the 365-year (I started the day the babies turned 6 months old) and have it as a visual journal for this year in my life. I'm trying to get pictures of every day things and watch the children grow. Images of our surroundings and things that we enjoy. Food that we're eating and places we love.)

_MG_4358

It's been a hard couple weeks.

Yesterday I cried. And then I prayed.

I was still crying. For the first time since they were born I was scared that I couldn't do it.

Then I prayed some more.

_MG_4359

Then I called one of my besties. She's a twin mom, too.

She let me talk it all out and then gave me a nice pep talk along with some advice.

Then I felt empowered again.

_MG_4360

Later, as I was making a play date for my son, I got talking to the mother of the boy coming to play. A woman I had never met. We talked about her disease and medical situation for 40 minutes and although she is a walking miracle that struggles with pain every moment of every day, her positive outlook and joy was contagious.

_MG_4361

By the end of the day I was rejoicing in motherhood and feeling so blessed and lucky.

And I felt cared for by a loving God that answers my prayers.
